Friday ...

It's hard to believe today was the penultimate day of my Spring Break trip to Germany. Reimund and I covered a lot of territory today, and had great fun. We left at 7:15 AM this morning, and drove north to Mainz. This is the town where Bastian attends college. From there we took the high speed train to Köln. This is the closest major city to Reimund's families farm where he grew up, and it was really enjoyable to see this area. Köln was completely new for me.
From the station we took a cab to the financial district where we met Reimund's brother Wolfgang, and borrowed his car (nice Mercedes-Benz S class!) to drive out of Köln to see where Reimund grew up. In today's gallery you'll see pictures from Reimund's home town.

After returning the car to downtown Köln we had lunch and then visited the cathedral, which was absolutely astonishing. From there we walked around the old-town, saw the Rhein River, and enjoyed a traditional/authentic Köln beverage Früh Kölsch (see above).

The high-speed train ride home was a great way to end our day. We sat in the beverage car and sipped cappuccino all the way back to Mainz. From there we met Bastian and the three of us drove back to Bietigheim.

Tomorrow: the big football game in Stuttgart.
