While we have a couple of season tickets to NU games, we don't have a parking pass for a near-by lot. And frankly I don't really want to park outside the stadium. One of my favorite memories as a child was walking to the University of Missouri football games. Some of those early walks/games were with G.D. Later I did them on my own. But there was (and still is) something about walking to a football game ... through a college town ... with the distant sound of the marching band rehearsing ... and flags flying from homes ... and the smell of the grills ... that gets me very excited about life. So I am just fine with parking a half-mile north of the stadium ... just over the Evanston border into Wilmette ... and walking to the stadium. Over the past several years I have found that I can generally find a parking place in just about the same hidden spot, and it is becoming a small ritual to walk to the game from this location. I actually find myself looking forward to that "daddy" time with Miles or Emery as much as the game itself.
Emery and I stopped by a reception in the basketball arena this morning where season ticket holders could take a "sneak peek" at the new locker rooms in that facility. Emery wanted to "stand on Willy The Wildcat's nose."
We had fun watching the NU Drum Line in the pre-game warm up. Great bass drum section. If only the 'Cats on the football field had played as well today. The first three quarters were very exciting, as we were leading Michigan. But Michigan came back to win late. Having attended both schools, I guess I'm happy either way; but I still pull for NU (and most underdogs).
