Today, while I was teaching Symphonic Band, one of my percussionists (Colleen - see picture above in red shirt) approached me and said, "Mr. Teague ... you should come to the YMCA tonight and try rock-wall climbing. We have a cool rock-wall there, and it's open tonight for two hours free. I'm working." As it turns out, Miles had just been to Kate Barker's 6th birthday party last weekend which was held at the YMCA, and the kids all tried the climbing wall. (Kate is actually very good at this; she's taken a class at the Y on climbing.)
Emery is sick today (has been for a couple of days) and so I called Kristen this afternoon and said, "What do you think about me taking Miles to the YMCA tonight, and I could call the Barker's and offer to take Kate with us?" She agreed Miles would like it, and so we invited Kate to go too.
So, Dad took the two kidos to dinner at the "Main St. Pizza" hole-in-the-wall eatery, followed by a romantic walk through the snow (see picture) ... and then on to the YMCA for rock climbing.
Some funny moments to share:
* At dinner Miles and Kate were giggling and laughing (sometimes uncontrollably). At one point - in an effort to get Miles to concentrate on his food so we could actually get to the Y on time - I told him to "stop laughing and eat" his dinner. Miles response: "But Dad, my heart controls my laughter. I just can't stop." What do I say to a five year old who says that?
* When we drove Kate home after rock-wall climbing I jumped out of the car, opened the back door ... only to find Kate up and out of her seat ... leaning over Miles and planting a big wet kiss on his cheek. As she retreated to the open door Miles wiped it off his face.
Kate: "You didn't like my kiss Miles?"
Miles: "Of course I liked it. It was just kind of wet and I had to wipe my face!"
Could this be considered his "first date?!"
When we move later this winter, we'll be only a block from the Barker's home. Lock the windows.
