Today we were able to get together with two of the other three families that used to vacation at Black Lake (MI) together in the summer. The Williams family invited the Owens family, and us, over for late-afternoon soup, games, and general 'catch-up' socializing.
Earlier this weekend Miles and I struck up a conversation about back-yard football games, and I told him that our friends, Bill Miller and Tim Rees, used to get together on the Friday after Thanksgiving - with some other friends - and play a pick-up game of football. So Miles had the idea this morning that it would be fun to have a football game at the Williams house this afternoon. We named it the "Black Lake Bowl."
Miles was proud to be a part of the winning team. We played "Kids vs. Old Farts" ... and the kids won easily, 77 - 42. Miles was pleased with his "all purpose" contributions. He tossed one touchdown pass as quarterback, caught a touchdown as a receiver, ran a kick-off back for a touchdown, and (maybe his proudest moment) sacked his father. Mizzou could have used him today ...
The Williams bought the game-ball, and presented it to Miles at the end of the game (thanks guys!). We made it into a "trophy" for the game, and recorded the score on the ball in permanent marker. Maybe the Old Farts can do better next time ...
