Yesterday, as I was driving to IKEA with Emery to pick up a desk lamp, she announced to me that she had "broken up with her boyfriend" - Nick - because he now thought Emily was cuter than her, and she was "jealous" - but she was now "in love with Evan" - and that "he's the one for me."
Me, being the totally out of touch father that I am - was completely oblivious to the fact that my FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER was dating ... breaking up ... becoming "jealous" of other women (yes, she said this) ... or in the process of long-term relational planning - just about drove into the Illinois Tollway Collection Center booth.
When I regained my bearings, and pulled into the IKEA parking lot, I took out my phone, hit the record button, and asked Emery to verify for me what I thought I had just heard.
