Offensively, Miles struck out once, walked twice, and scored one of the team's runs on some head's up base running. Defensively, Miles played catcher, right-field, first base, left field, and short stop. In the later of these positions he made an out by calling for a very high pop-fly, making the catch, and then holding the base runner with a quick toss to first base.
It was a full day of baseball; earlier in the afternoon the Royals lost 7 - 6 to the Cubs on the north side of town. Miles, however, pitched two shut-out innings as the closer, striking out four batters.
