Benny Golson Quartet @ The Jazz Showcase

This afternoon we took a multi-generational field trip to The Jazz Showcase in Chicago to see the legendary tenor saxophonist Benny Golson. We were worried - when we arrived - that we might not get in because the line was out the door. But patience (and a little help from pianist Michael Kocour ... thanks Mike!) allowed us to wedge our bodies into the "standing room only" space.

For me, the musical highlight was hearing the jazz classic "I Remember Clifford" performed by the man who penned the song so many years ago. The musical nuance demonstrated by Golson on this tune was matched only by the sincerity of his reflective comments offered in memory of Clifford Brown.

My only regret from our outing is that we didn't snap a picture with G.D. to document our three-generational field trip. Still, it was a lot of fun to take Miles, Emery, Kristen and dad to this hallowed jazz stomping ground.
