Santa Breakfast 2012 - "Well, on second thought …"

Today was our 11th consecutive yearly jaunt to the 'Santa Breakfast' sponsored by the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary.  We started attending the Christmas before Miles' first birthday (2002), and have never missed one since.

Emery was excited to wear her new hat, and to show Santa what she bought at the German Christmas Market in Chicago last night.  Santa was right on top of it, noting as soon as she sat down, "My, that's a beautiful hat you have on there young lady!"  Big points for Santa.

Last year, Miles announced at the breakfast that it would be his final year to have his picture taken with Santa.  "I'll still go to the breakfast," he said.  But his plan was to just eat and watch the younger kids.  Well, as soon as he heard the big-guy himself entered the room, Kristen and I could see on Miles' face an intent 'second guessing.'  As I stood up to get in line with Emery, I heard Kristen tell Miles that it was still fine if he wanted to visit with Santa.  That's really all it took.

"Dad, I was thinking about it," he told me afterward as we walked to the car.  "Last year was my 10th picture, and I thought that would be a good number to stop.  But I still think you should have your picture taken while you're still 10."

No argument from me.  "Miles, you can sit on Santa's lap as long as you want."
