Today I dropped off Miles at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. We got an early start (5:30 AM) so he could be there for an 11 AM cabin check-in.
Everything about the move-in went smoothly, and Miles was very excited to get started. I've sent dozens and dozens of students to Blue Lake over the past twenty-three years of music teaching, but it was my first visit to the actual camp. I was immediately taken by 1) the beauty of the area, and 2) the efficient and friendly manner in which every staff person I encountered handled the welcome process.
After eating a picnic lunch together and helping him get moved in to his cabin, Miles and I set out to explore the area.
When we returned to the cabin it didn't take long for Miles to introduce himself to the other boys in his group, and politely suggest to me, "Dad ... so about what time are you leaving?" That was my cue!
I'm thrilled for Miles that he will have this 12 day arts immersion experience at Blue Lake.
