Row 1, Seats 1-4

Kristen was the family hero last night, having been offered complimentary tickets to last night's Sox game. We had no idea, when she accepted the tickets, where we would be sitting. I can say with confidence we will probably never sit in seats like this again!

Honestly, the score of the game didn't matter so much to us, especially given the fact that the Sox were not contending for the post season. In some ways I think Kristen and I were secretly cheering for the Royals ... knowing that a KC win was going to send them to the playoffs for the first time in 29 years ... which by coincidence was the same time I moved from Missouri to Chicago. The seats included access to the clubhouse tunnel, and as we were leaving the game it was really fun to walk past the visitor locker room, see the doors swing open, and get a glimpse of the players spraying one another with champaign.

As we were walking "backstage" at one point a man in his 60s walked past me. He was with a number of folks who had official KC Royals credentials hanging around their necks. His face was familiar to me but at the time I could not place it. Reading the sports page this morning I now realize it was Hall of Fame player George Brett, one of my childhood baseball heroes.

Given our seats, we were on TV almost constantly during the game. Hopefully none of us did anything too embarrassing.
