When I got home from work tonight, I was met by Miles asking me if I could teach him how to "be a web page designer." "What?" I asked. "What made you ask me that?" Miles went on to explain he had seen some segment on Disney Channel about 'Hidden Talents,' and that it made him want to do his own web page.
During dinner Miles thought of several things he wanted his website to be able to do, including video games. After I let him down easy ... and explained that I had no idea how to teach him to write video games ... he settled on "math problems."
I explained to Miles that when he was born we bought him a web-page address for this very purpose ... and after dinner he excitedly typed in the address (www.milesteague.net) to find a blank page. "That's my web page?!" he asked in a disappointed voice. "It is until you change it," I said.
I helped Miles through the steps of posting to his Blog, but he controlled the mouse and typed everything himself. He also decided he wanted to tell family members about it, so he opened up the email application, typed a new email, put the addresses in, and hit send without any help/input from me.
It was really fun to watch his level of excitement, and his personal pride in his work tonight. I also found it fascinating to see the math problems he created.
