Day 6: Skipping Rocks, Tide Pools, Kayaks & S'mores On The Beach

Our Monday morning was spent in Searsport, at a public park that had tide pools. Miles and Emery enjoyed wading in the water and engaging in rock skipping challenges. We were all pretty surprised how quickly the tide rises in the morning. We started out on sand bars that were 100 yards out from the parking lot. By the time we left most of the area was completely submerged.

After lunch we rented two tandem kayaks at a local camp ground just down the road about a mile from the house where we are staying. We had a wonderful time out on the water, and decided to paddle back to the house and surprise G-Bird and Papa. The best part of our journey might have been that no one tipped!

Tonight, after dinner, we gathered more driftwood along the beach and made a large fire. S'mores were consumed by very appreciative children.

Quote of the day: "Young man, I can tell you are growing up to be a fine gentleman." - said to Miles by a woman at the restaurant where we ate dinner tonight. She had observed him pulling G-Bird's seat out for her ... and seating his grandmother ... when we sat down for dinner. I could tell that this unsolicited compliment meant as great deal to Miles, and I appreciated her taking the time to walk over to our table on her way out to say something to him.
