Day 7 - Toledo

Our final day in Europe was spent visiting the beautiful city of Toledo, which until the mid-1500s was the Capitol of Spain.

After a 45 min journey from Madrid, our first stop was at a local factory that specializes in forging steel for knives and swords.

At the same location our guide introduced us to a master jeweler that was working with gold as thin as thread. Miles and Emery really enjoyed watching him work ...

... and Kristen really enjoyed buying his work ...

The most amazing part of our day was spent walking through the city and visiting the cathedral.

I could tell that Miles and Emery were captivated by the city, if for no other reason than this was the first day they both wanted to take their own pictures as we moved through our guided tour.

Visiting the cathedral of Toledo was like discovering a beautiful and unexpected gem.

Kristen and I were stunned by the sheer number of famous paintings hanging in the cathedral, including many by Greco.

Before returning to Madrid we had a terrific tapas lunch, and Emery purchased a new scarf as a souvenir of Spain.

Maybe one of the best moments of the trip came as we returned to the hotel this afternoon, and as we were unloading our tour guide complimented Miles and Emery by saying "It was a pleasure to have you today; I wish all children in Spain behaved as you do."

Note to family tracking us back in the USA: This will be our last blog post prior to flying home. We are off to the Night of Kings Parade in about an hour. After the parade it will be a late dinner with our hosts, then back to the hotel for a quick nap prior to a 3:30 AM wake-up call.
