What a special evening we had as a family tonight. Thanks to the generosity of our great friends - the Lutz family - we had a chance to sit front and center for the 20th Anniversary "Welcome Yule!" concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was a fabulous concert in every imaginable way; a real holiday feast for the ears and eyes. Thank you, Mike and Bridgid, for the invitation!
If that were not enough, the icing on the cake was the chance to see David Herbert again following the concert, and his extremely gracious offer to show our family around back-stage. He took Miles and Emery up onto the stage of Symphony Center so they could see his perspective from behind the timpani. He took us to his "office" where he keeps and maintains all of his instruments. And he also showed us the music library of the CSO, and introduced us to one of the librarians.
We took the final photo to share with John Patterson and Tim Baldwin; we figured they might enjoy seeing their former band students from HHS together in a mini-reunion of sorts.
Thank you, David, for the special tour. What a thrill for a 5th grade percussionist to meet the Principal Timpanist of the CSO!
