Emery tagged along with me to the Midwest Clinic today; her first since starting percussion this past fall. After reacquainting herself with Air Force Band Concert Master / Principal Clarinet / Former Babysitter Kristin Bowers … we explored a LOT of percussion on the exhibit floor.
Not pictured here are photos of Emery patiently reading a book next to me while I attended professional workshops during the day.
In the evening we had dinner at Miller's Pub, did the annual window-walk at Macy's (I still want to call it Marshall Field), visited the Christkindlmarket, and spotted Santa riding on the top of a CTA bus.
Thanks to the amazing generosity of a friend we enjoyed box seats at the symphony, where we saw the CSO premier of James MacMillan's "Veni, Veni, Emmanuel," a 30-minute percussion concerto featuring CSO principal percussionist Cynthia Yeh.
Following the concert, David Herbert texted us, and graciously invited Emery backstage to meet Ms. Yeh. What a thrill! I don't expect Emery's feet to touch the ground for several days.
