Day 3 - New Year's Day 2013

After a very late night with the fireworks, it was nice to sleep in just a bit. Parade day activities began with a pre-parade breakfast reception at the Royal Horseguards Hotel.

We all appreciated the grandstand seats at the parade's TV-Zone, and the wonderful parade itself. I spent a good portion of my time today at the parade fondly remembering the DGN Band performance two years ago. It was certainly an unusual feeling (and a change of pace) to be back today without my own students. But I did appreciate the chance to see the event from a different lens and be a part of it in a different capacity.

After the parade we took a short family side trip to King's Cross Station to find "Platform 9 3/4" made famous in the Harry Potter books and movies.

Finally, we wrapped up the day back at the Royal Horseguards Hotel for a post-parade reception that afforded both Miles and Emery the opportunity to meet, shake hands, and speak to both the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Deputy Lieutenant of London. Kristen and I were very proud of both for their poise and manners in a social environment relatively unusual for children their age.

It was a great day to be sure. We are back at the hotel now, resting up for tomorrow's "Harry Potter Experience."
